Short Term Accommodation (STA)

Short Term Accommodation (STA) is a funding support provided by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for individuals who require accommodation and support for a short period away from their usual home. Reachability Australia provides STA services that are funded by the NDIS under the 'Assistance with Daily Living' category. STA funding covers the cost of care in another place for up to 14 days at a time and includes personal care, accommodation, food, and activities agreed upon with the provider. Participants can use their funding flexibly, such as in a block of up to 14 days at a time or for one weekend a month. STA is often funded when the usual carers are not available or for individuals to try new things. Reachability Australia can provide STA services that are tailored to the individual's needs and goals.

STA supports are delivered by qualified and friendly staff providing a range of activities in a safe and supportive environment, where you can learn new skills and build your independence.

What is included in STA ?

Specialised support 24/7: Specialised staff available 24/7 providing support during overnight, short and extended stays.
Fully accessible homes: An accessible environment that provides all the support you will need.
Nutritious meals: Balanced and delicious meals including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
Fun activities: Enjoy social activities, excursions, relaxation therapies and more during your stay.

Medium Term Accommodation

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is a type of support offered through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) that helps participants find suitable, safe, and affordable housing for medium-term living purposes. MTA is a one-off support that is usually up to three months or 90 days for NDIS participants. It can help if you need a temporary place to live while waiting for your confirmed permanent home. MTA is usually funded by the NDIS for up to 90 days and only covers the cost of the accommodation, not usual everyday living expenses. Reachability Australia provides MTA services that are tailored to the individual's needs and goals. Participants and their families can discuss their home and living goals as part of their planning conversation with the NDIS. If you are seeking NDIS medium-term accommodation support, Reachability Australia can provide you with a temporary place to live while waiting for your confirmed permanent home.

The NDIS usually funds MTA as a one-off support, for stays of up to three months (90 days), while things are getting sorted.

F.A.Q.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a way of providing Australians under 65 who have a permanent or significant disability, with funding to receive the necessary care and support to achieve their goals and get through their everyday life.

Eligibility requirements for NDIS can vary for different people and situations. Basic requirements include:

  • Aged between 7 to 65
  • Holds Australian Citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency, or holds a Protected Special Category Visa
  • Requires support from another person due to permanent or significant disability
  • Uses special equipment related to permanent or significant disability
  • Requires support to assist with future needs and tasks

NDIS is designed to provide you with support and care services to improve your everyday life and health. The amount of funding you receive is based on your individual plan and needs to last for the entire duration, typically 12 months after your plan started.

We’re a Registered NDIS Provider who provide customised NDIS support for eligible participants across the country. We tailor support and ensure you get the most out of your NDIS plan through disability and in-home support services based on your goals, needs and lifestyle.

To help you navigate the process with ease, here’s a step-by-step guide to access the NDIS  ensuring you achieve your goals.

  1. Check whether you’re eligible for NDIS funding. Click here to find out.
  2. If eligible, apply for NDIS over the phone or by submitting a form.
  3. You will be assigned a Local Area Coordinator who will work with you to develop your individual plan based on what you’d like to achieve, how you will achieve it and how you will be supported.
  4. Once it is approved by the NDIS, you will receive your plan through the NDIS online portal (myplace) and notified in person or by mail.
  5. You and your Local Area Coordinator will use myplace, NDIS local advertising or recommendations to choose the right NDIS provider for you. Please note: You can have several different NDIS providers for your different funded supports.
  6. Choose the right NDIS provider for you and set up a Service Agreement to outline how you will work together. At HCA Home, we come to you and work together to create a personalised support plan and help you get the most out of your NDIS plan.
  7. Start receiving your services and supports using your NDIS plan. At HCA Home, we have regular reviews with you to ensure you’re on track to meet your goals and offer free detailed progress updates to your family and carers upon request.
  8. Review your NDIS plan to continue service.

If you join Reachability Australia, we offer assistance with your NDIS plan review. Call 073 505 6469 and speak with an NDIS specialist today.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, there are two ways you can apply for NDIS funding. You can either call NDIA on 1800 800 110 to make a Verbal Access Request (VAR) or fill out a paper Access Request Form (ARF).

What documentation is required?

  • Completed Access Request Form (ARF) – ask your Local Area Coordinator, Early Childhood Early Intervention partner (if your child is under 7), your local NDIA office or call NDIA 1800 800 110 to receive a form.
  • Age and residency evidence – Tip: If you’re registered for Centrelink, you can give the NDIA consent to use your Centrelink record.
  • Disability evidence and how it impacts your everyday life – Tip: Ask your healthcare professional to complete Part F of ARF or an NDIA Supporting Evidence form.
  • Any existing reports or assessments.

A thing to remember…

When NDIS participants turn 65, they have the option to stay in the scheme or apply to receive support through aged care services.

At Reachability Australia, we’re person-centered in every way so we can offer you quality, tailored, in-home support services when you need them. We offer a wide range of services to help you live a full and independent life.

Everyone’s circumstances are different, so if you prefer to discuss your personal needs and have your questions answered in private,  contact our friendly consultants today via our enquiry form or call us on 07 3505 6469.
